Our Materials
Since founding, Golani has been committed to the highest standards in design, materials and craftsmanship, creating fine jewelry that celebrates special moments and treasures your memories for a lifetime.
Many of our materials are delicate in nature and should be worn with care. We recommend removing your jewelry before daily rituals where moisture, salts or chemicals are involved. These include activities such as bathing, exercising, swimming, applying lotion, spraying perfumes, washing hands, and cleaning dishes.
Over time, the surface of precious metals like gold and silver will naturally dull. With some simple, basic care, you can help preserve and protect your jewelry while restoring its original luster. Material specific care instructions can be found in the section below.
Gold
Golani only uses 14 karat and 18 karat solid gold, a beautiful and radiant precious metal which is skin-friendly and hypoallergenic. Although gold does not tarnish, it can get dirty and may require cleaning from time to time to retain its beauty and restore its luster.
Exposure to chlorine or harsh, non-PH neutral substances such as household bleach or detergents can cause discoloration and possibly disintegration. We recommend you remove any gold jewelry prior to working with such substances to protect the integrity of the gold.
Care
Using a soft brush, gently scrub the gold with a non-abrasive cleaner, such as dish soap. Then rinse the gold thoroughly in warm water and carefully wipe dry. This will remove the dirt and dullness, keeping your gold like new.
Storage
Gold is a very soft and malleable metal by nature, making is susceptible to scratches and dents. Good storage boxes are lined with soft, non-abrasive surfaces and have a separate space for each individual piece to help prevent rubbing against one another.
Sterling Silver
Golani only uses 925 sterling silver, a beautiful and lustrous precious metal which is skin-friendly and hypoallergenic. Because sterling silver tarnishes naturally, it may require cleaning from time to time to retain its beauty and restore its luster.
Exposure to salt air and products containing sulfur, such as rubber products like rubber bands, can accelerate tarnishing and cause corrosion. However, silver that is regularly used typically needs less care, so we strongly encourage you to wear your silver every day.
Care
Using a small amount of anti-tarnish silver polish on a soft cloth, gently rub the silver several times or as instructed by the polish manufacturer. Then rinse the silver thoroughly in warm water and carefully wipe dry. This will remove the tarnish and dullness, keeping your sterling silver like new.
Be sure to wear gloves when working with silver polish. Chlorine and bleach accelerate tarnishing and should be avoided.
Storage
Silver should be kept as dry as possible. If your silver is used frequently, keep it away from excessive exposure to air and store it in a tarnish-proof cloth, such as a flannel pouch or a silver storage box.
Good storage boxes are lined with tarnish-proof fabric and have a separate space for each individual piece. Bags made of Pacific cloth are also very effective in preventing tarnish. If your climate is humid, place a small packet of desiccant crystals (e.g. silica gel) inside your storage area, whether it is a closed box or a flannel pouch.
